The Essential Britney Spears

In honor of the new Britney Spears album release this Tuesday, I thought I’d provide FrankieRose our readers with a suggested playlist of the very very very essential Britney songs from her career so far. If you’re in doubt over why you should care about her or her music, take a look at this great article for SF Weekly by one of my recent Twitter discoveries, @OscarRaymundo. And for a review of what you can expect from her new album, Femme Fatale, check out this article on OutspokenNYC.com by superfan Tommy.

But, real talk, these are the 25 songs you should be jammin’ to all weekend in hotticipation of Femme Fatale:

Take a peak at the two lead singles from Femme Fatale and see where Britney is heading with the new sound!

Born This Way

So it has been a week now since Born This Way by Lady Gaga came out, and I thought now would be the appropriate time to review it.  You know I needed to let it simmer a bit before I really knew what I thought about it.

Well… The play count says it all.  I have only listened to Born This Way 15 times since it came out.  For a comparison… after 7 days of listening to Bad Romance I had listened to it well over 50 times (if not more).  I’m not sure what the problem is with Born This Way… It’s catchy, the message is good… but it’s still kind of dull.  Don’t get me wrong though.. it is far better than Hold It Against Me.. poor Britney.

Born This Way:

HATE IT

Speaking of Britney, I just saw her video for Hold It Against Me.  Bitch is broke!  She can’t dance anymore, and what is with paint spraying from her finger tips?  What the hell does this video have to do with the song?  I honestly just don’t get it… I mean how hard is it to make a music video?!  Oh and it doesn’t help that in the video it shows her old videos where she can actually dance, and what is up with her beating herself up… well I guess I’d beat myself up to if I made this video. If you want to brave it…  click here.  One last question… Can someone please refer Britney to a hair stylist?

Hold It Against Me (Video):

HATE IT

What do you think?

We Dance To The Beat

Let’s review some new music:

–Britney Spears: Hold It Against Me

I’d like to start by saying there is nothing special about this song.  Secondly I would like to remind people of another song that came out in 2009… it was Madonna’s Celebration which was completely panned by all for being too basic with a dated club sound.  Now fast forward to 2011 and Britney has released a song that is in my opinion also too basic with a dated club sound.  Apparently Madonna is still ahead of music trends… who knew?   I would also like to point out how this songs pattern is much like Rihanna’s Only Girl (In The World).  Listen to the two and tell me there isn’t a similarity.

In the end this song is lacking greatly in epic-ness! Comparing this song to the likes of Oops… I Did It Again, Gimme More, and Womanizer (other lead singles) this one just has no unique qualities to it.  I’ve listened to it 5 times now, and I am already bored.

HATE IT!

–Avril Lavigne: What The Hell

Over the years I have grown to like Avril Lavigne’s music, but don’t get me wrong I still hate Sk8r Boi… possibly one of the worst songs ever made.  But with songs like Don’t Tell Me, Keep Holding On and I’m With You (one of my personal favorite songs ever) she has certainly grown.  This does not mean that I am not always worried about something new… her recent song for the Alice in Wonderland movie sucked, but this new song I actually like a lot.  It is ridiculously poppy and upbeat, and hello it’s message is about saying fuck it lets just have fun.

Although this song is not original in any way (much like Britney’s new song) it is actually fun to listen to which can’t be said for Britney’s new tune.  This song will inspire me at work tomorrow to say… fuck it lets have fun instead! I’m sure my boss will appreciate it.  :)

LOVE IT!

What do you all think of these new songs?  Agree with me? Disagree with me?

One Week Ago Today…

Benutty asked Gary Jr. and I to his house for a night of fun and frolic.   When I arrived these two bitches were decked out as Shalita Double-Double and Amelia Bearhart, then they forced me into Benutty’s drag closet and out popped Shamperella!  The following is just a sample of how that night turned out…

Beware… This video contains 3 Drag Queens, Booze and Bad Lip Syncing!  (oh and near nudity!)

Me Hungry. Want. Gimme. Rowwr.

Im craving a super burrito and I hate Nick.

UPDATE: And Gary Jr. is eating a Double Double (this statement is true regardless of what time you read it)
